Shooting in Kitzbühel
Kitzbühel is a ski name first, which undersells it badly for a summer wedding. The old town is a genuinely beautiful stretch of painted medieval houses, and the mountains around it are gentler and greener than the harder peaks further west.
It is also the most polished of the Tyrolean wedding towns. The hotels are used to demanding guests, and the standard of food and service is closer to a city than a mountain village.
When to come
May to June
Alpine meadows in full flower, which is the single strongest look this region offers.
July to August
Warm, green and busy. Long evenings and excellent hut access.
September to October
Cattle drives down from the summer pastures, colour on the slopes, and clear air.
December to March
Ski season, full town, premium rates. Beautiful, but plan around a resort at capacity.

Hahnenkamm summit
Cable car from the edge of town, wide alpine views, and easy access for older guests.
Kitzbühel old town, Vorderstadt
Painted facades and narrow lanes. Works in almost any weather, which makes it the reliable fallback.
Schwarzsee
A small warm lake north of town with reeds and a low shoreline. Morning light, and quiet outside July.
Alpine huts on the Bichlalm
Working huts with weathered wood and open pasture. The look most couples actually mean by alpine wedding.
Kitzbüheler Horn road
A toll road that gets you to real altitude by car, which matters when a cable car timetable does not fit the day.
Practical notes
- The Kitzbüheler Horn toll road is the only way to reach altitude here without a lift timetable. Useful for evening portraits after the cable cars close.
- January is the Hahnenkamm race week. The town is full, rates triple, and it is not a week to plan a wedding.
- Innsbruck airport is eighty minutes away, Salzburg ninety, and Munich two hours.
- Many alpine huts are family-run and close one day a week. Confirm before building a shot list around one.
