Shooting in Seefeld
Seefeld sits on a broad plateau at twelve hundred metres, which changes the photography entirely. Most Tyrolean valleys are narrow and lose the sun early. Here the ground is open, the peaks are set back, and the light stays usable far longer into the evening.
It is twenty five minutes from Innsbruck by road and has its own railway station on the Munich line, which makes it easier for guests than the altitude suggests.
When to come
May to June
Meadows in flower across the plateau, and the Wildmoossee sometimes filled after snowmelt.
July to August
Warm, open and green, with the longest usable evening light in Tyrol.
September to October
Larch turning gold across the plateau, which is a colour the rest of Austria does not get.

Reliable snow at this altitude and a cross-country skiing town rather than a downhill one, so it stays calm.
Spots worth the walk
Wildmoos meadows
Open pasture with the Karwendel behind. Best at sunrise, and almost never occupied.
Seekirchl chapel
A small white baroque chapel standing alone in a field. The most recognisable frame in Seefeld.
Rosshütte and the Härmelekopf
Funicular and cable car access to two thousand metres, with the plateau spread out below.
Wildsee lakeside
A small lake on the edge of the village with reeds and a boardwalk. Five minutes from most hotels.
Larch stands towards Leutasch
Golden in October, and a texture you will not find in the Salzkammergut.
Practical notes
- Seefeld has a station on the Munich to Innsbruck line, so guests can arrive without a car.
- The Wildmoossee is intermittent. It fills after heavy snowmelt or rain and disappears in dry spells, so do not build a plan around it.
- At twelve hundred metres, evenings are cold even in July. Guests will want layers for an outdoor dinner.
- The plateau is popular for cross-country skiing in winter. It stays calm compared with a downhill resort, which suits a winter wedding.
